Speak Up Courses

How Do We Talk With Children About Race?

Our signature training is our Speak Up Course which can be taken as a 7-part series or a 3-part Saturday series. It is open to parents, caretakers, and professionals who work with children, or anyone else who wants to learn with us. We also offer different formats of the course for schools and community organizations.

In our course participants:

  • reflect on their own stories and experiences

  • explore the research on race and children

  • deepen their analysis of systemic racism

  • practice meaningful responses to challenging situations

  • and learn about developmentally appropriate resources for teaching and raising anti-racist children.

Summer Introductions

For some people, the idea of talking about race in a course setting can be daunting. Our informal introductory conversations are an opportunity to hear a short presentation about our organization. We’ll let you know who we are, why we do what we do, and why we’re inviting you to join us. We’ll answer your questions, and you’ll leave with information about some possible next steps.

Dad’s Group

Parent-centered events often draw more women than men. To encourage men to engage in anti-racist parenting, we are offering this course just for men. This course will use an intersectional approach to anti-racism that critically explores the ways in which dominant constructs of masculinity impact our relationship to power, privilege, and oppression.
